Peter Elkind
Fortune Magazine Editor and Co-author of the National Bestseller The Smartest Guys in the Room
Peter Elkind, a Dallas-based senior writer for Fortune, uncovers high-stakes sagas in the business world. He joined the magazine in November 1997, after freelancing for Fortune for a year. From 1991 to 1996 he was the editor of the Dallas Observer, and under his stewardship the paper won a Penney Missouri award as the best weekly in the country. Elkind was also on the staff of Texas Monthly for eight years. He won an Investigative Reporters and Editors Award and a Texas Medical Association Award for his reports on a nurse accused of killing children under her care, the subject of his first book, Death Watch.
He and fellow Fortune senior writer Bethany McLean exposed the Enron scandal and wrote the national bestseller The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron, which went on to become an Oscar-nominated documentary. Elkind has a B.A. from Princeton University, where he was editor-in-chief of The Daily Princetonian.
