Jim Gemmell
Senior Researcher at Microsoft and co-author of Total Recall: How the E-Memory Revolution Will Change Everything
Jim Gemmell is a Senior Researcher at Microsoft, currently working on the next generation of search. He has written many scholarly papers on multimedia, computer networking, and telepresence, and has contributed to international standards in multicast networking. Gemmell was the architect of MyLifeBits, and spread interest in research on personal lifetime storage as the creator and chair of the First and Second ACM Workshops on Capture, Archival and Retrieval of Personal Experience (CARPE). He received his master’s in Math from the University of Waterloo and his PhD from Simon Fraser University. Gemmell’s research has led to features in Windows XP, Windows Server 2008, and Bing. He lives in the San Francisco Bay area.
