Read moreBethany McLean joined Fortune in July 1995, and is now a New York-based senior writer covering a wide range of companies and industries. In early 2001, she was one of the first reporters to raise questions about Enron, with her story “Is Enron Overpriced?” She and fellow Fortune senior writer Peter Elkind exposed the Enron scandal and wrote the national bestseller THE SMARTEST GUYS IN THE ROOM: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron, which went on to become an Oscar-nominated documentary.
McLean has written major articles about the credit rating agencies, the pharmaceutical industry, Winstar, Lucent, Internet car salesmen, and professional wrestling. She also contributes to the “Street Life” column at Fortune.com. Before Fortune, McLean worked at the investment bank Goldman Sachs. She has a BA from Williams College.
