The author of the stunning new nonfiction book LOVE CEMETERY: UNBURYING THE SECRET HISTORY OF SLAVES, she is also known for her award-winning LONGING FOR DARKNESS: Tara and the Black Madonna. Galland is the author of three other works of nonfiction. Her novel REUINION has won awards from the California Arts Council. She is the recipient of a Hedgebrook Writers Invitational Residency on Whidbey Island, Washington, for her work on THE BOND BETWEEN WOMEN, which is also a finalist for the annual Best Spiritual Book award from Books for a Better Life. Galland is known as one of the world’s leading authorities on the Black Madonna and has led pilgrimages to sacred sites around the world.
Galland is a professor-in-residence at the Center for the Arts, Religion and Education at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, where she directs the Keepers of Love project. She lectures, teaches and leads retreats on religion, race and reconciliation both nationally and internationally. She and her husband live in the Bay Area with their children and grandchildren.
