Deborah Davis @ Crocker Art Museum

Deborah Davis will speak at the Crocker Art Museum's inaugural “One Book/Many Perspectives” program, which will take place in conjunction with the museum’s current “The Summer of Impressionism” exhibition series. For the grand finale of the museum’s new initiative, Davis, author of Strapless, will talk about the mysterious woman who posed for one of the most infamous portraits in American art history—Madame X by John Singer Sargent. From scandal and dishonor to beauty and fascination, this is a tantalizing tale not to be missed. Attendees are encouraged to view works by John Singer Sargent in Landscapes from the Age of Impressionism before and/or after the talk to further appreciate the lecture. The event will include both a morning and afternoon “Meet the Author” talk and a book signing at 12:30 pm. Tickets are $10 for Crocker Art Museum members and $20 nonmembers.

Novelist Robin Oliveira in Conversation with Cokie Roberts

 

Best-selling author and Emmy Award-winning commentator Cokie Roberts returns for another Frederick Reads event—this time, to interview Robin Oliveira about her debut novel, "My Name Is Mary Sutter."
 
Admission is free and there are no tickets for this event. Admission is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
Oliveira’s historical novel opens on the eve of the Civil War and goes on to tell the epic story of a young woman who—determined to overcome prejudices against women in medicine—becomes one of the nation’s first female doctors.
 
March is Women’s History Month. Roberts’ own books focus on American women and the important roles they played in the shaping of the United States, and she will discuss women’s roles in Oliveira’s novel.
 
A book sale and signing for both authors will follow this event.
